An Open Letter to Lou Pritchett

Dear Mr. Pritchett,

You are a former corporate executive with an agenda to push and like numerous other corporate CEOs, you truly scare me.

You scare me because after months of exposure, you have chosen yourself not to learn anything about our new president.

You scare me because you actually believe it matters how someone pays for their college education if they want to become the president of this great nation.

You scare me because you truly believe that Barack Obama did not grow up in America when in fact he grew up in Hawaii and Illinois and has never been raised or brought up in another country.

You scare me because you think Mr. Obama has never run a business or a payroll; he has run one of the most important businesses in the United States: The Illinois Senate.

You scare me because you think just because someone has never had military experience means that they do not understand the intricacies of the armed forces.

You scare me because you attack the president for lacking class and humility when in fact you have absolutely no evidence to support your claims; class and humility are subjective terms and are opinions, not facts.

You scare me because you believe that our president has “aligned [himself] with radical extremists who hate America.” You keep giving opinions, but no evidence to back up those opinions.

You scare me because you are the cheerleader for the “blame the government” crowd and deliver this message within your homeland.

You scare me because you want to change America to a nation with little government intervention so more corporate thieves can flourish.

You scare me because you, like all of the other neo-conservatives, are caught up in the “government run healthcare” hype.

You scare me because you stand for destroying this beautiful Earth for oil reserves; a true eco-terrorist you are!

You scare me because you truly believe that America has the highest standard of living in the entire world; guess again my friend. In order from 1 to 10, the countries with the highest standard of living are Norway, Australia, Iceland, Canada, Ireland, Netherlands, Sweden, France, Switzerland, and Japan. The United States is number 13.

You scare me because you believe that the passing of legislation counts as “extortion tactics,” especially in regards to banks who need heavy regulation.

You scare me because you obviously have not heard the uproar in Congress, from republicans and democrats alike, on the current healthcare debate.

You scare me because you believe Mr. Obama does not listen to opposing points of view. Barack Obama has two republican cabinet members while George W. Bush only had 1. At least that counts for something.

You scare me because you falsely believe that you are both accurate and powerful.

You scare me because you are too quick to blame the media for all of your opponent’s positives, just as every other neo-conservative does.

You scare me because you believe that Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, and Glenn Beck are actual political commentators. They are comedians that pretend to be commentators.

You scare me because you believe that a person has the power to “control” within the confines of a republic.

Finally, you scare me because if you keep writing absurd pieces of work such as the one that this letter goes along with, I will probably have to keep on writing even more.

On a More Disturbing Note

It's 1:55AM and I have class at 10:30AM. I tried to go to sleep but just before I was about to put my iPod Touch down for the night, an interesting headline about the gay marriage referendum in Maine caught my attention on my EDGE gay news app. Curious, I read the entire article. That is why I am officially sleepless. Tough I suppose that not having a job and only focusing on schoolwork and my freelance jobs helps a lot with nights like these where I don't suppose I will get any sleep.

So for those of you who don't know, many state-wide elections will be held this November 3 (just a day after my birthday). The governor of Maine signed a marriage bill last May that would legalize gay marriages to be performed and recognized throughout the state. Unfortunately, the anti-human rights religious zealots puked up just enough support to put the very fate of civil rights in the hands of the people to decide. My friends, civil and human rights is not for people to decide; it just is.

Anyway, representatives for both sides of the argument went around the state and on the radio trying to gather support for their cause. The two sides were the hateful, god-obsessed supporters of anti-equality and the loving, caring people who want to see human rights given to every person regardless of their sexual orientation.

As you know, on my blog, anyone who I deem as hateful or against the rights of others gets the wonderful title of "His Hatefulness" or "The Ultra Hateful" or something of that extent. And you must also know that their first and last name does not get capitalized out of respect for the people that they hurt with their religious zealotry.

The Ultra Hateful marc mutty is the man's name who is against the legalization of gay marriage in Maine. And wouldn't you have guessed he works for the Catholic church in Portland? Wow, what a surprise! Not.

So as I was reading through the article, I came across a statement that he said on the radio. A woman had called in and was worried about what the new gay marriage law would do to her family, if enacted. The Honorable Zealot marc mutty responsed, and I quote, "It's going to have an impact over time. The Legislature created a genderless marriage. Procreation is no longer essential; that's a huge change. A family with a father and mother is no longer important. I find that bizarre."

As you can probably imagine I was blown away by reading this asinine and belligerent statement. Clearly, The Mega Idiot marc mutty has no clue as to what he is talking about and is spewing the same old slime that every other religious nut-case spews when they try to argue against gay marriage.

The Honorable Lunatic marc mutty makes some inferences in his statement:
  • Marriage is only for procreation
  • A family is only important if a father and mother are both present
  • Family is only one father and one mother
This man is sick ladies and gentlemen; very, very sick. In fact I would suggest that he and his bunch check themselves into the nearest psychiatric ward because someone with such a corrupt thought process like this man will doom deserved equality forever.

This man sees marriage in such a black and white way that he is obscuring himself from accepting other people's points of view. He sees marriage trough a periscope owned by a church; sadly, the church alters the periscope to make people see only what they "should" see; what is "right" and "moral" to see. The sad thing is that you can trace every single human and civil rights issue back to its origins and I promise that you will be able to find a crucifix branded on the birth of the story.

Now, on to what King Intolerant marc mutty had to say. First, he is assuming that family is only a father and a mother. He is not taking into account that in a lot of instances, this is not the case. The term family can be used interchangeably in more ways than one. Take for instance a homeless person. Other homeless people or people living in his shelter are his family; in fact, they are his nuclear family. What about two gay people that adopt a child? Are they not a family? They certainly are and there is no way to argue that. Period.

Secondly, mutty is assuming that marriage is only for procreation. Really? That is why you think people marry? Oh, no, you're right. No one marries for the love, passion, romance, happiness, tenderness, joyfulness, or outright obsession over one another anymore do they? No, the only think people think about when they want to get married is their children. See, I get it!

Come on, is this wing nut for real? I can't believe that any respectable radio station or news outlet would let such a deplorable person on their airwaves. Though there is one news station that would love to have him: FOX. Actually, FOX does not produce news; they produce commentary and opinion, but that's a whole other issue.

Finally, A Start!

Ladies and gentlemen, president Obama is about to act on his first LGBT issue in office. He has not kept his promises to the HRC and the nation to repeal the DA, DT policy in the military. His work on repealing the DOMA is moving at an incredibly slow pace. However, the first piece of federal legislation that will officially consider an assault, threat, or attack against a LGBT person a hate crime has finally made it to his desk. Now all he has to do is sign it. I'm sure many of you can see why this is a problem.

On Thursday, October 22, the Senate passed groundbreaking legislation that would make it a federal crime to assault, abuse, threaten, or attack anyone based upon their sexuality. This is a remarkable piece of legislation that deserves an applause from all of its supporters and sponsors.

The only thing that stands in the way of this bill becoming a law is President Barack Hussein Obama, who has yet to make good on any of his promises to not only the LGBT community, but to the country at large.

Obama's lack of effort in his presidential campaign's promises has opened up speculation that as sad as it is, Obama might certainly become a lame-duck president. Not one thing Obama promised during his campaign has pulled through; this does not include only LGBT issues. He promised a complete troop withdrawal within his first few weeks in office, which never happened. He vowed to cut the federal deficit by a significant amount within his first year in office; it is higher than ever before. These are just a few examples folks.

And now, we have the greatest issue of our time right in the palm of our hands: equality among the LGBT community. For the past 8 years, the war criminal George W. Bush has put gay marriage on the back-burner and oil in the foresight of the American public. Now we finally have a president who will actually speak at gay pride rallies and conventions, such as the HRC. In fact, Obama was only one of two presidents to ever address a gay rights group in this country. That my friends is a damn shame.

President Obama, you have given us the hope. Now, where is the audacity?

Gay People Want to Suffer Like the Rest of Us!

In the previous post I started to talk about a topic that all anti-gay proponents will never mention: their marriage has less than a 50% chance of lasting as it is. Now, this statistic can certainly be broken down into multiple, smaller elements, but those elements do not include fiscal or emotional factors. So, for arguments sake, let's say that all first-time marriages have a 50% chance of surviving.

I just wanted to throw in some more fun facts about divorces in the United States (source: www.divorcerate.org):
  • 50% of first marriages will end in divorce
  • 67% of second marriages will end in divorce
  • 74% of third marriages will end in divorce
Anyway, what does all of this mean? Well, it means that out of you and your spouse and your friend and his/her spouse, one or both of you will get divorced. Isn't 50% a wonderful statistic? It can be used interchangeably in so many examples.

So we have concluded that your marriage only has a 50% chance of surviving. To be honest, that's a pretty depressing number. If you put that number on an academic paper, it's a failure. Suppose you had a coin. Heads means you keep your marriage and tails means your marriage ends. Flip the coin and hope for the best because that is exactly what your marriage would look like if it were shiny and worth some monetary value.

But what is the bigger picture? What am I trying to point out here?

Gay people just want a shot at what you only have a fifty percent chance of achieving.

Think about that sentence for a while. Seriously think about it. Does it not make sense?

Imagine that you were a horrible student in high school (maybe you very well were). Suppose you were a straight F student; you got a 50% on everything; your homeworks, tests, quizzes, and projects. Now imagine someone your age who was a friend of yours, but didn't go to school. That friend wanted to go to school very badly (and you wonder why they would want to in the first place) and one day he/she said to you "I would die to go to school if I could at least get a F on all of the work that I did." How would that make you feel? Would it make you realize that you might have been taking the entire concept of school for granted?

Gay people just want a chance at what you have. They don't want to infringe on your religious beliefs; they don't care about that. They also don't care about your marriage or how its doing as you don't care about your neighbor's marriage. All they want is to be given the opportunity for an "F" relationship; for a relationship that only has a 50% chance of lasting.

Do you really think that gay marriage will destroy the "sanctity of marriage?"

First of all, what exactly is the "sanctity of marriage?" As far as I am concerned, it only has to do with religious texts, which mean nothing to anyone who isn't religious, including myself.

Do you not think that all of the premarital sex going on with today's youth is destroying the "sanctity of marriage?" What about the enormous divorce rate as we just mentioned? How about all of the people that remarry? In a previous post, I said that according to the Holy Bible, remarrying after a divorce calls for death by stoning. And what about atheists, agnostics, or polytheists who marry? Do atheists, agnostics, and Hindus (who are polytheists) not have a right to get married? If you think so, then you should probably go crawl in a ditch and eat worms.

Your marriage only has less than a 50% chance of lasting. It's time to open up the stage to new groups of people who want to marry. Who knows, maybe it will decrease the out of control divorce rate we have in this country.

Marriage for all, including but not limited to homosexuals, bisexuals, heterosexuals, atheists, agnostics, theists, polytheists, transsexuals, and every other kind of group of people.

If you do not agree that all people should be allowed to marry, sit down and shut up or get the hell out of this country.

Marriage is between a human and a human, period.

A Straight Ally of the Gay Community: Why?

Many folks ask me "Hey Matt, why do you support the gay community? You are straight!" I casually respond "Why do you support the homeless? You have money!" Though these two instances are polar opposites of each other, I hope that you understand the point that I am trying to make.

As a straight man, I am so proud to say that the gay community has my full support, both monetarily and personally.

You see, gay marriage is not a religious issue. Unfortunately, too many religious-right zealots purport gay marriage and the "gay agenda" to be a religious issue. "It is against god's will!" is usually the phrase that is heard. Well, not all gay people believe in god, so how does that work? Checkmate.

Gay marriage, my friends, is a human and civil rights issue. It is not some scheme hatched by men doused in pink scarfs and Louis Vitton handbags in some smoke-filled room in the bottom of a gay club. No, it is a right, a human right, that the LGBT community wants.

If you are straight and married, your marriage has less than a fifty percent chance of lasting. That means that you have a better chance of getting divorced than you do staying together. And you call gay marriage a threat to the definition of marriage? I think you better get your priorities straight buddy.

You don't think that all of the premarital sex is destroying the "sanctity of marriage?" You don't think that the sky-high divorce rate is contributing to the very core of what marriage is supposed to be? What about people who remarry? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it says somewhere in Leviticus that someone who remarries is supposed to be stoned. I guess my father (who is an ordained minister), step-mother (who was raised Catholic), and mother are all going to burn in hell forever. Oh, wait, I forgot myself! I had sex before marriage; I guess I contribute to the destruction of the "sanctity of marriage" myself! Horray!

On top of all of this, why shouldn't I support equal rights for all humans? Come to think of it, why wouldn't anyone support equal rights? Sadly, there are so many people in the world today that truly believe they are on a higher plane than other human beings. My friends, let me make one thing clear to you right now: NO ONE is higher than anyone. It does not matter if you were born into poverty in Rwanda or born into royal blood in England; every human is equal to each and every other human, no ifs, ands, or buts. Let's toss this "I'm better than them" attitude right out the window; that's the first step to become what we call tolerant.

I support a lot of social causes, namely the HRC and Amnesty International, but there is no social cause, in my opinion, greater than the most important issue of our time: gay marriage. Social justice and equality will never fully be achieved until all gay people are allowed to have the exact same freedoms and privileges as anyone else. I'm not talking civil unions; this is not good enough and, in my personal opinion, is a slap in the face to all gay people.

Still have questions why I support full LGBT rights? Read the rest of this blog or just try and use your common sense.

Is America Finally Heading Down the Path of Equality?

In today's age, it is hard to realize that there are still people in the world that think gay people should not have the same rights as they do. Furthermore, those same repressive people base their ideologies simply off of their religious zealotry that they insist is correct even when it is not.

But through all of this, aren't we, as a nation, becoming more tolerant; aren't we becoming more accepting? I think so! Let's take a look!

  • Same-sex marriage is currently legal with no restrictions in Iowa, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Vermont.
  • Same-sex marriage will being within the next few months in New Hampshire.
  • Same-sex marriage is expected to pass within the next few months in New York and Maine.
  • Civil-unions are performed in New Jersey, Colorado, Washington DC, California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Wisconsin, and Nevada.
  • It is now a federal crime to assault someone based on their sexuality.
This is amazing! A few decades ago, none of this existed. Gay people have been put on the back-burner of society since the beginning of time. And sadly, no time was more oppressive for the LGBT community than the administration of George W. Bush, who completely ignored the cries of all homosexuals across the nation. Yes, that's right. A president of this great nation ignoring citizens because they are different; what a surprise.

I think by just glancing at these facts that we can begin to realize that our nation is on a path to change and I think it will start with President Obama. Though myself and numerous others are very unhappy with him for his lack of effort with regards to the LGBT community, I think we can all agree that we are all hopeful that he will pave the way to a new, brighter America.

I have faith that under the Obama administration, the DOMA and the don't ask-don't tell policy will be abolished. Furthermore, I feel that more work will get done on enacting tougher legislation in regards to violence and hate against the LGBT community.

Conservative republicans are pussies!

Seriously, they are. I don't mean pussies as in female reproductive organs; I actually mean cats. Yes, felines.

You know when a cat gets backed into a corner by either a predator or a potential enemy and it arches its back and raises its fur in order to make itself seem bigger than it really is? Well, that is the conservative republicans in this country today.

They know they are a minority. They know a lot of people hate them (sadly, they come up with excuses for this). Yet, they stick with their horrible and socially unacceptable belief systems and think they have all of the answers to solving America's problems.

So, what do they do when they are so fearful of a liberal takeover? They arch their backs, hiss and spit, and raise their hair. They are bombarding the media (not the media's fault, except FOX news) with propaganda and trying to spread fear across America in order to gain support for their cause. Glenn Beck, The Hateful rush limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, and the entire FOX news network are just a few names that come to mind.

The problem? When a cat is backed into a corner, it never gives up; it will always defend itself, even when it is tired. That is a big problem for us liberals who want the conservative scum eradicated from our country. So, how do we deal with them? Well, talking will not do very much; it never helps when you are speaking to a conservative because they see the world through rose-colored glasses. The only way to stop that cat is to call animal control.

Unfortunately, there is no "animal control" for conservatives; everyone is too afraid of them. The best that we can hope for is that they will gradually be flushed down the drain as America moves forward and they insist on staying behind (hey, they don't call them conservatives for nothing, right?).

Conservatives: we will move on with or without you. You are a bunch of ignorant, intolerant children who just want to be accepted. Either get on the bus or stay back at the bus stop.
